Brazil Aims for Productivity Boost with Network Designed Just for Business

Empresa de Infovias S.A. to provide cost effective, converged IP voice and data services for its corporate users

Nokia Siemens Networks is to design and build Brazil’s first IP Communications network purely for business use allowing Empresa de Infovias S.A. to power the region’s growing economy.

Nokia Siemens Networks will deploy the Next Generation Network (NGN) for Empresa de Infovias S.A., enabling the operator to launch new, converged intranet, voice and data services for its parent company, Brazilian energy group Cemig, in a project, named SIM (Portuguese abbreviation for Multi-service Integrated System). The usage of any eventual excess capacity in the network will be explored with other corporate customers.

“Amongst local operators currently exploring this relatively nascent corporate market in Latin America, we are especially well placed to offer business users, particularly CEMIG, an efficient and price competitive solution,” said Sérgio Belisário, General Superintendent of Infovias. “Added to this, with both Nokia Siemens Networks local expertise and its leading technology, we are confident of success in this rapidly growing market.”

“Our strength in next generation technology will provide Infovias with a stable and scalable platform to address the challenges of expanding their network at the same time they broaden their portfolio,” said Armando Almeida, Latin America Region Head at Nokia Siemens Networks. “Converging voice and date services into a single, scalable platform has been shown to make a big difference in business productivity. We hope that this new service will have similar impact on the enterprise market in Brazil.”

The network will provide an easy migration path for Infovias’ existing fixed network customers to a cost-effective, IP platform. The feature-rich solution which will be deployed in more than 90 sites in the Minas Gerais state will extend Infovias’ existing network and coverage to handle the increased flow of data traffic and be able to connect up to 150,000 ports to the NGN platform.

The expanded network will be based on the Nokia Siemens Networks Surpass hiQ NGN solution, a platform that already has more than 15 million subscribers connected worldwide.

Nokia Siemens Networks will also offer value-added services such as system integration and support to network operations, assuring a successful network expansion, fast rollout, network reliability and, above all, a reduction in costs.
