[Cairo, Egypt – 10 September 2008] Huawei Technologies Co Ltd. ("Huawei"), a leader in providing next generation telecommunication solutions for the operators around the world, announced that it has signed a contract with Egyptian telecom operator, Etisalat Misr, for the expansion of the country’s third mobile network in Egypt.
Under this contract Huawei will provide the cost-effective and evolutionary end to end solution to build wireless access network, core network and transmission network for Etisalat Misr. The expansion will result in great improvement of network capacity and coverage quality.
"We chose Huawei as our supplier when we got the 3rd Mobile license in 2006. After two years development, we choose Huawei again for the network expansion. It will enable us to provide the best service quality to our subscribers." said Mr. Saleh Al Abduli, CEO of Etisalat Misr.
"We are honored to partner with Etisalat Misr again," said Mr. Peng Zhongyang, President of Huawei North Africa Region. "With our innovative UMTS, HSDPA and GSM solutions, we are dedicated to help Etisalat Misr enhance its competitiveness in Egypt."
As the strategic partner of Etisalat, Huawei had also provided the turnkey project of Phase 1 & 2 for Etisalat Misr in 2006. Backed by the fast and high quality delivery, Etisalat Misr officially launched its service in 2007 with its subscriber base reaching 4 million. In May 2008, Huawei was awarded the medal of Successful Cooperation Partner by Etisalat Misr.
