Addressing Job Seekers' Concerns in the Face of a Bleak Economy

SUNNYVALE, Calif., Sep 09, 2008 (BUSINESS WIRE) -- Continued bleak reports of the current U.S. employment situation are affecting job seekers' attitudes. The results of a new Yahoo! HotJobs survey reveal that one-third of survey respondents believe that landing a dream job in the current economy is just not possible. Separately, more than 50 percent of respondents see no relief in sight, pessimistically reporting that they expect the employment situation to only worsen over the next six months.

Survey respondents (42 percent) assert that one of the biggest obstacles to finding a job in the current economy is that there are no openings at companies they are interested in or for positions respondents want.

However, perception is not always reality. Yahoo! HotJobs announces the launch of the HotJobs 100, a resource for job seekers who want to know exactly where to find the jobs.

The HotJobs 100 is a list of the top 100 companies across all industries that are currently hiring. The inaugural HotJobs 100 list reaches across a variety of companies, including popular retailers Macy's and RadioShack. To further assist those job seekers frustrated by their search, Yahoo! HotJobs is also releasing lists of the industries and geographical regions where hiring is the hottest.

Location, Location, Location

As in real estate, the job market also experiences hot zones and Yahoo! HotJobs data reveals California is feeling the effects of a job opening heat wave. Five of the top locations for finding a job are in California. Southern states are also hot for job seekers.

About the Survey

Data was collected from nearly 600 people with jobs via an online survey questionnaire across the Yahoo! network and fielded nationwide. Fifty-five percent of respondents were male and 45 percent were female. The results reflect only the opinions of those who chose to participate.
