FET to add Symbian, Windows Mobile to its online application store in 3Q10

Taiwan-based mobile telecom carrier Far EasTone Telecommunications (FET) will add Chinese-language Symbian- and Windows Mobile-platform application programs to S Marketplace, its online store for handset-based Chinese-language Android-platform application programs which opened in the Taiwan market in mid-October 2009, in the third quarter of 2010, according to the company.

There have been 25,000 downloads since the opening of S Marketplace, FET indicated. More than 70% of these downloads are from users which are not FET subscribers, including mobile subscribers in Hong Kong, FET pointed out.

There are more than 100 applications available at S Marketplace currently and all programs are free to download until the end of 2009, FET noted. Commercial operation of S Marketplace will kick off on January 1, 2010, after which an expected 30-40% of all programs will be charged based on per download or fixed monthly fee rates, FET pointed out.

FET is negotiating cooperation with China's largest mobile telecom carrier China Mobile Communications to offer applications at Mobile Market, the latter's handset-based application store, FET indicated.
