Fitel likely to purchase WiMAX base stations and end-to-end networks from Motorola

First International Telecom (Fitel), a WiMAX licensee fro the northern region of Taiwan, is likely to purchase WiMAX base stations and WiMAX end-to-end network solutions from Motorola, according to sources at Fitel.

For the establishment of WiMAX core networks, a subsidiary of Fitel is still evaluating potential suppliers, with Fitel sources indicating that the company is expected to purchase core network equipment from Cisco Systems and Juniper Networks.

In other news, Fitel has requested an extension of three months in order to raise its paid-in capital up to a minimum of NT$1 billion (US$30.8 million) as required by Taiwan's National Communication Commission (NCC). The original deadline expires on December 31, 2007.
