Ericsson is expanding in the area of open operating systems

The company Ericsson announced joining the ranks of the participants Open Handset Alliance (Open Mobile Alliance) and the intention to keep on their mobile platforms, software stack Android. Ericsson will also provide support for all major operating systems on their mobile platforms.

Ericsson will support the Android software stack at some platforms, such as using external applications and in embedded solutions. Ericsson will also contribute to the development of the project open Android, to develop the necessary software interfaces and drivers for the further development of this project. Mobile platform from Ericsson, supporting Android, will appear by mid-2009.

Ericsson intends to maintain at its platforms all major operating systems. Ericsson acquired the license for the Symbian and supports the operating system using multiple processor applications. Ericsson has also acquired a license for the OS and Windows Mobile, implementing platforms based on the operating system, in a wide range of mobile phones worldwide. In addition, Ericsson intends to propose solutions based on Linux-platform.
