Taiwan market: Tatung InfoComm to start WiMAX services on April 27

Tatung InfoComm, one of the six WiMAX licensees in Taiwan, will kick off its WiMAX operations in Penghu, a group of small islands west of Taiwan proper, on April 27, according to the company.

Customer premise equipment (CPE) will comprise of USB dongles and wireless access points (AP) during the initial period of operation, company president Peter Yen said.

Tatung will also push for the establishment of its WiMAX infrastructure in Kaohsiung, southern Taiwan, aiming to launch commercial WiMAX services in the port city in conjunction with the World Games 2009 Kaohsiung, which take place from July 16-26, Yen added.
