Gartner: Mobile sales are falling, and smartphones - the rise

The company Gartner summed up sales of mobile devices in the first quarter of 2009. According to analysts, during the period around the world have been sold 269.1 million mobile phones in the 9.4% lower than in the first quarter of 2008. Volume shipments of smartphones and communicators has reached 36.4 million devices, it is 12,7% more than were sold during the same period last year. In five of the world's largest supplier of mobile devices in the first quarter of 2009 included Nokia, Samsung, LG, Motorola and Sony Ericsson. At the same time, market share Nokia, Motorola and Sony Ericsson dropped a few percent per year, while Samsung and LG - have grown.

With regard to smart phones and communicators, the sales in this segment only grew, despite the financial crisis and a general decline in the mobile industry. In the first quarter of 2009, smart phones accounted for 13.5% of the total sales of mobile terminals, while a year ago, there were no more than 11%. More than other companies increased the market share of Research In Motion and Apple - on 6,6% and 5,5% respectively. The five largest suppliers of smartphones and communicators in the first quarter of this year, according to Gartner, include Nokia, Research In Motion, Apple, HTC and Fujitsu.
