Huawei and VNPT Deliver World' s Largest Optical-Layer ASON Network

Huawei Technologies Co., Ltd. ("Huawei"), a leader in providing next-generation telecommunications network solutions for operators around the world, announced that it has deployed the world' s largest optical-layer Automatic Switch Optical Network (ASON) network for Vietnam Post and Telecommunication Group (VNPT), covering Hanoi, the capital of Vietnam, and the northern provinces.

ASON is the next-generation transmission technology that increases network stability, reduces operational cost, and allows more flexibility in broadband services. The successful delivery of VNPT' s network involved the transportation and installation of hundreds of Huawei ASON products across Northern Vietnam. The network is able to ensure high carrier-class reliability of services even in the case of multi-point failures. The service level agreement (SLA) is also supported, which enables VNPT to define different service reliability levels and priority levels for different customers. In addition, the ROADM and tunable OTU technologies realize the fast provisioning of services and the decrease of maintenance difficulty and maintenance cost.

"This is a significant upgrade to the backbone network of VNPT. We are delighted that Huawei deployed such a large and complicated network in only eight months," said Luong Manh Hoang, Deputy General Manager of Vietnam National Telecoms (VTN), the transmission networks arm of VNPT. "VNPT is committed to leveraging cutting-edge technologies to enhance our service availability and stability. Huawei' s outstanding support helps us achieve that goal."

Christian Chua, President of Huawei Transport Network Line, said: "The commercial launch of VNPT' s AVON network is a major milestone in the field of intelligent optical networking. Huawei will continue to invest in R&D to bring more of these types of innovative solutions to our customers."

Huawei has been actively involved in the development of ASON standards and commercialization since 1998 and has built more ASON networks than any other telecom vendors in the world.
