All-in-one mobile site solution boosts 2G, 3G and LTE network coverage and capacity

Nokia Siemens Networks High-Performance Site Solution lowers OPEX for operators.

Nokia Siemens Networks has today launched its High-Performance Site Solution aimed at allowing operators to cost- effectively and rapidly modernize and expand their mobile networks. The solution brings significant savings by increasing base station capacity by 80 percent and coverage area by up to 40 percent.

“The compact Nokia Siemens Networks High-Performance Site Solution brings much-needed extra capacity in the booming mobile broadband market without the need for additional antennas or physical space,” said Tommi Uitto, head of Wireless Access product management, Nokia Siemens Networks. “The small all-in-one solution can be easily installed in any location at lower implementation costs and enables operators to cost-effectively expand in markets where traditional sites are not feasible.”

At the core of the Nokia Siemens Networks High-Performance Site Solution is the capability to cost-efficiently enable a 6-sector site instead of the traditional 3-sector site used in most network rollouts today, which boosts capacity to handle data and voice calls by up to 80% per base station. Previously, increases in the amount of required equipment, cabling and antennas meant this was not feasible with traditional site models and base stations.

The solution consists of a combination of the market-leading, compact Flexi Multiradio Base Station, the latest dual beam antennas, and a “feederless” site model with the base station located next to the antennas. This enables a lean site and minimizes site and equipment costs. Furthermore, the 40% increase in coverage per base station means that fewer sites are needed to introduce mobile broadband to new areas.

The High-Performance Site Solution is LTE-ready and requires a simple software upgrade when deployed in HSPA networks. Its flexibility, however, ensures that it is also ideal for the modernization of GSM/EDGE networks.

Nokia Siemens Networks High-Performance Site Solution is part of and complements the company’s site solutions portfolio. High-Performance Site Solution is already available for WCDMA/HSPA/HSPA+ and Internet-HSPA.
