United States Cellular Corporation (NYSE: USM) has announced that Jeffrey J. Childs has been promoted to executive vice president and chief human resources officer, effective immediately. Previously, Childs was U.S. Cellular's senior vice president and chief human resources officer.
"Jeff has been instrumental in developing U.S. Cellular's customer-centric culture, the Dynamic Organization, which is one of our major competitive assets," said LeRoy T. Carlson, Jr., chairman of U.S. Cellular and president and CEO of Telephone and Data Systems, U.S. Cellular's parent company. "His vital contributions in leadership development and talent management have been a significant driver of our success."
Childs joined U.S. Cellular in 2004 and today oversees all human resource-related activities, including hiring and organizational development. He is responsible for cultivating strong leaders, the first step in the company's customer-focused business model. Childs has more than 30 years of experience in sales, marketing, operations and human resources.
Childs holds a bachelor of arts degree from Ball State University and is a graduate of the University of Michigan's Global Leadership Program. He serves on the human resources and pension committees of the Chicago Metropolitan YMCA, is the incoming chairman of the Human Resources Management Association of Chicago and is a member of the board of Junior Achievement of Chicago.
Childs resides in Barrington, Ill., with his wife and son.
