MTS in 2011 tripled the pace of building 3G networks


The mobile operator MTS announced the installation of almost 17 000 new base stations across Russia during 2011. During the year the operator has constructed about 3000 new base stations in the standard GSM. In 2011, MTS completed the modernization of the network in Moscow, replacing 2G base stations on the latest equipment NSN, which supports the formats of GSM, UMTS (3G) and LTE. A similar project was launched in the Far East, a supplier of new base stations in the region is a company Huawei.

During the year the number of mobile Internet users increased by 25%, and consumption of Internet traffic MTS subscribers increased more than threefold. In order to cope with the network is constantly growing volume of data transferred, MTS takes the base station to IP-based technologies (such as by connecting to the optical communication lines, and through the organization of radio relay channels based on IP). Currently, MTS supports high speed data transfer up to 21.6 Mbit / s, and about one hundred base stations allow customers to reach speeds of access to the global network at 42 Mbit / s.

The length of the fiber-optic communication lines MTS has grown year by almost 15% to 117,000 miles. The daily volume of traffic that passes through the data networks of up to two terabytes in 1620.
