Ericsson Expands its SPO Packet Optical Transport Platform Family


Ericsson showcases its SPO Packet Optical Transport Platform family to address Metro Regional applications at OFC/NFOEC 2012
Product line extends the SPO family of POTP from the Metro Access to the Metro Regional network
SPO 1400 sets the POTP benchmark with the highest capacity density and lowest power profile
Ericsson will showcase its expanded line of SPO Packet Optical Transport Platform (POTP) products at The Optical Fiber Communication Conference and Exposition (OFC) and the National Fiber Optic Engineers Conference (NFOEC) this week in Los Angeles, California. Ericsson’s new SPO 1480 product extends the SPO Family of POTP from the Metro Access to the Metro Regional network to support popular packet, TDM and wavelength services on one platform.

Consumers in The Networked Society have an ever-increasing demand for video and personal connectivity. As today’s data centers strive to support new applications and devices, additional stress is placed on the capacity, technology and transmission speeds of the optical network. As part of Ericsson’s 4th Generation IP Network vision, the SPO family of POTPs provides a simple, easy to scale, high value solution to help network operators meet these demands.

Network operators leveraging Ericsson’s SPO POTP family can deliver low and high order TDM and packet and wavelength services across the Metro Access and Regional network on a common set of platforms with a single multilayer IP Transport Network Management Systems (IPT NMS). The SPO 1400 has a simple and scalable hybrid TDM-WDM-Packet architecture that is ideal for legacy TDM-based networks that need a low-risk transition to ultrahigh capacity packet transport. Its building-block architecture gives operators the flexibility to optimize node configurations for location and cost with the ability to scale optical capacity without sacrificing shelf switching capacity.

Ericsson’s SPO 1400 family provides the highest capacity density and lowest power profile in the POTP/P-OTS industry, featuring OTN, SONET/SDH and PDH support and performance, L2 connection oriented Ethernet switching and aggregation and WDM technology.
