Ericsson to introduce Smart Cloud Accelerator solution

Accelerates operator return on investment via unified caching technology
Reduces operator operations cost by integrating Akamai caching technology, initially within SSR 8000 fixed and mobile routing gateways and subsequently in the RAN infrastructure
Increases operator CDN reach federating with partner operators and with the global Akamai Intelligent Platform
As part of the recently announced Network-enabled Cloud concept, Ericsson (NASDAQ: ERIC) today introduces its Smart Cloud Accelerator solution. This new solution complements Ericsson's portfolio of content delivery options consisting of the Mobile Cloud Accelerator (MCA) which allows mobile network operators to deliver content with an improved end-to-end quality of service, and the Media Delivery Network (MDN), an operator Content Delivery Network (CDN) optimized for video delivery.

Rapidly growing demand for over-the-top content continues to drive high usage in both fixed and mobile networks. In response, operators want to reduce the cost of transport and increase Internet application responsiveness, thereby increasing user satisfaction and revenue.

The new operator CDN solution accelerates return on investment via unified caching technology. It optimizes over-the-top traffic and monetizes cloud content for operators, adding Akamai capabilities to Ericsson's SSR 8000 family of routing gateways.

Ericsson will use unified caching technology from Akamai to provide for dynamic capacity sharing between operators and their CDN customers, as well as over-the-top Internet traffic.

The solution will allow operators to manage and deliver both their own content and that provided by third parties. In addition, these new CDN offerings will enable operators to save on expensive aggregation, core, and peering/transit costs.

Integration within the operator network policy infrastructure provides fine-grained control of resource allocation and quality of experience, thereby enabling operators to provide attractive offerings to a variety of content providers.

Operators can maximize the use of their CDN investment by initially optimizing over-the-top traffic and gradually reallocating resources to value-added content as they build up their customer portfolio
