Nokia Taiwan on September 8 launched its new flagship handset, the N96, in the Taiwan market with a suggested retail price of NT$29,700 (US$877). The company also plans to bring in more models to further pull up its market share.
Although the parent company in Finland has recently lowered the outlook for its market share in the third quarter, Nokia Taiwan will continue its efforts to boost its share in the local market, according to CK Cherng, general manager of Nokia Taiwan.
Nokia was the number one ranked handset vendor in Taiwan in July, accounting for a 32.6% share in terms of unit sales, followed by Sony Ericsson with a 23.8% share and Samsung Electronics with a 14.3% share, according to data cited by the Chinese-language Commercial Times.
Nokia plans to introduce its first model with a touch-screen panel, the 5800, into the Taiwan market in October, before launching the N85 and N79 in the fourth quarter, Cherng indicated.
