Chip Hope, a Taiwan-based IC distributor, has stepped into development of Android-platform IC turn-key solutions for use in WCDMA- and TD-SCDMA-based solutions together with an international chipmaker, with products expected to appear in September 2009 and early 2010, respectively, according to company president Hsiao Kun-hsien.
Chip Hope declined to identify its partner, but market analysts speculate that it may be working with Qualcomm, ST-NXP Wireless or Infineon Technologies.
Chip Hope provided touch screen IC solutions for use in 70,000 white-box handsets in China in 2008, the company indicated. The proportion of handset IC solutions in the company's overall revenues is expected to rise from 20% for January-February this year to 65% in the third quarter of 2009.
