Android 4.2 to feature dual notification bars for Quick Settings

Android 4.2 is coming, and coming soon. While we don’t know what to expect from Google and Android 4.2 or their upcoming LG Nexus 4, the details are slowly starting to leak through the cracks. What we have today is something that can’t fully be confirmed at this point, but it looks like Google will be introducing a dual or second notification pulldown bar for quick settings. The notification pulldown bar in Android has always been one of my favorite features. Showing users anything and everything in one neat and easy to access place is awesome. Google revamped this with Android 4.1 Jelly Bean and introduced expandable and collapsible notifications — which now gives us tons of additional details and the option to instantly react with notifications like never before.

You’ve all seen those WiFi, Bluetooth, GPS, brightness, and more toggles that grace almost every custom and manufacturer build of Android right? If not see above. Well Google might have solved that problem. Check this out!

They are calling this “Quick Settings” which is a secondary notification pulldown bar that will provide us with quick settings for everything. The video above is reportedly the LG Nexus 4 running a newer build of Android 4.2 and the image provided above is actually from a system dumb. That is the actual image currently in the second pulldown bar, and soon it will be replaced with all those widget and settings toggles we love.

To access this, after you swipe down to reveal your notifications (which now show the clock and details again) a second swipe will reveal the new and improved Quick Settings — I love it. With Jelly Bean’s notifications getting bigger and expanding with details, we need all the space we can get. Why waste two lines up top with quick settings when a simple swipe can bring them up (or down) with ease? For now we just have a placeholder image but I can’t wait to see more about this — if indeed it is true and not just some fancy hack from developers. Battery life is astounding, too. Sprint Announces The Optimus G Will Be Available On Nov. 11th For $199, Pre-Orders Start Nov. 1st

We've just confirmed with Sprint that the Optimus G will be available on the Now Network on November 11th, for $199 on a 2-year agreement. Pre-orders begin on the 1st of November.

The Optimus G, as a quick refresher, is the first mass-market phone to contain a Qualcomm S4 Pro quad-core processor, which by all accounts is currently the most powerful mobile chipset on the market. I've been using the G for a few days now, and I have to say, it is fast. We'll have our review of the Optimus G for AT&T and Sprint up some time this week.

The PadFone concept has been in development for over three years now and the latest release, Padfone 2, has been in the lab for more than two years.

With PadFone 2, ASUS wanted to further improve the user experience and particularly the process of moving between Pad and Phone.

ASUS engineers worked tirelessly to reduce the weight of both PadFone 2 and the PadFone 2 Station tablet dock, looking at every part of the product with an eye on reducing weight without sacrificing robustness or quality. The result of all this hard work is that, together, the two are lighter than many 10-inch tablets on the market and the user experience hasn't been compromised in the process.

One of the key breakthroughs with PadFone 2's design is the new patent-pending docking mechanism. ASUS wanted to simplify the PadFone 2's docking process by reducing the number of steps required to dock or undock the phone.

PadFone 2 requires just a single-step insertion and removal process that, amazingly, is more secure than the original PadFone docking mechanism, which incorporated a protective hinged door. We have already mentioned in the news about the upcoming smartphone LG Nexus 4 (LG Optimus Nexus), but we now know that the line of models under the brand Google Nexus and the unit will join the company Sony. Photos of the smartphone appeared on the network, it is expected that it will be called Sony Nexus X. However, it is difficult to say whether this is true whether or not the pictures and such a device is being developed.

Now into its second year, The Big Android BBQ has moved to a bigger venue to accommodate more sponsors, sessions, and attendees. Held at the state-of-the-art Hurst Convention Center in the Dallas-Fort Worth area, the three-day event is packed with sessions, fireside chats, prizes, along with some good old fashioned Texas BBQ. We have a full plate of Sony speakers lined up, with topics ranging from technical to super-technical:
Introduction to Dynamic Android Sensor HAL (12 noon to 01:00 pm, October 20) – Oskar Anderö is a software engineer at Sony in Lund, Sweden. His session covers the sensor HAL, the software layer giving applications direct access to the sensor components.
Google TV App Development and Opportunities (11:30 am to 12:30 pm, October 21) – Tonni Larsen and Christian Kurzke, both from Sony, will provide an overview of the Google TV platform and show how to create apps for the big screen. The session includes demos of 2nd gen Sony Google TV devices, along with app development, best practices, and new opportunities for developers.
Sony Google TV Fireside Chat (12:45 pm to 1:45 pm, October 21) – Tonni Larsen and Christian Kurzke will continue discussions on Google TV app development and developer opportunities.

Schedule updates to Android devices LG Android 1/4 Jelly Bean

South Korean company LG Electronics announced schedule update the operating system for some of its Android devices, released this year, to version Android 4.1 Jelly Bean.

According to the company, in the next month the new operating system will LG Optimus LTE II, then, in December, will receive a similar update LG Optimus G, and in the first quarter of next year will see the Jelly Bean Optimus Vu and Optimus Vu: II. In this case, first of all, updates will reach devices intended for the local market, and for other international markets, they will come with a delay.
