Most Taiwan 3G service operators, including Chunghwa Telecom (CHT), Taiwan Mobile, Far EasTone Telecommunications (FET) and Vibo Telecom, all have decided to boost sales of their 3.5G data card business bundled with netbooks.
CHT began on March 16 to offer a three-year package sale that requires a monthly fee of NT$850 (US$24.8) on offering of an Acer E169 netbook and a 3.5G data card from Huawei Technologies for NT$6,990, according to a Chinese-language Economic Daily News (EDN) report.
In addition to Acer, CHT has also extended its cooperation with BenQ and Asustek Computer, with an aim to boost the number of subscribers of its 3.5G data cards to 290,000 by the end of this year, EDN said.
FET is currently pushing its 3.5G data card business bundled netbooks from Acer, Asustek and Elitegroup Computer Systems (ECS), and the company plans to add netbooks from a leading international vendor soon, according to market sources.
CHT, Taiwan Mobile, FET and Vibo together are expected to sell a total of 200,000 netbooks in the Taiwan market in 2009, the Chinese-language Commercial Times quoted data from Taiwan Network Information Center (TWNIC) as indicating.
