Garmin-Asus delays Nuvifone G60 handset launch, sources say

The launch of the dual-branded Garmin-Asus Linux-based Nuvifone G60 handset jointly by Asustek Computer and Garmin will be pushed back to the third quarter of 2009 from the original schedule previously set in the first half, according to market sources.

Reasons for the delayed launch are not available, but the postponement could undermine the synergetic efforts of the Asustek-Garmin R&D team, the sources indicated. Asustek and Garmin jointly unveiled the G60 in February this year.

However, the delay in the G60 may not affect the two companies' efforts to roll out their first Android-powered phone in June this year, said the sources, noting that the Google phone has been developed chiefly by Asustek.
