HTC enhancing presence of Android-powered Magic in Asian markets

High Tech Computer (HTC) plans to introduce the HTC Magic in the Hong Kong market in cooperation with Smartone-Vodafone in June, according to market sources. The maker launched the HTC Magic smartphone in Taiwan in early May and unveiled a model, the HT-03A, customized for NTT DoCoMo in Japan, on May 19.

Other versions of the HTC Magic will also make their debuts in Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, the Philippines, and Vietnam soon, the sources added.

Meanwhile, HTC is also developing a customized version of HTC Magic for China Mobile, said the sources, who also noted that the customized Google phone will run on China Mobile's in-house developed Android-based open mobile system (OMS).

China Mobile is expected to start marketing in June the tweaked version which supports EDGE technology instead of HSPA technology normally seen in the HTC Magic, the sources revealed.
