ZTE ships 48,000 CDMA base stations in January-April 2009

ZTE has announced that it shipped 48,000 CDMA base station units worldwide in the first four months of 2009, almost reaching the 2008 total shipment volume. CDMA SDR-based base stations accounted for 91% of the total 48,000 shipments. Its ZXSDR BS8800, a SDR base station with high capacity of 48 carrier-sectors, shipped over 25,000 units over the same period.

The substantial growth in ZTE's CDMA base station business is primarily driven by the expanding worldwide market including the rapidly growing 3G industry in China, the company said.

During the last four months in the developed coastal areas of China, ZTE's CDMA product adoption experienced a considerable rise: ZTE is the exclusive CDMA equipment supplier for the cities of Qingdao, Yantai and Weihai of Shandong province. Also during this period, ZTE achieved 75% market share in Fujian province covering the major municipalities of Fuzhou and Quanzhou, according to the company.

To date, ZTE's CDMA base stations have exceeded a total volume shipments of 170,000 units globally. Its CDMA footprint has reached a total capacity of 200 million lines worldwide providing services to over 120 operators in more than 70 countries, the company said.
