European Commission: Standard battery chargers for mobile phones set to Micro-USB connector

The European Commission has announced that some of the largest manufacturers of mobile phones and components for them, including such companies as Apple, LG, Motorola, NEC, Nokia, Qualcomm, Research in Motion (RIM), Samsung, Sony Ericsson, Texas Instruments, signed a Memorandum of Understanding . Vice-President Gunter Verheugen (Günter Verheugen), responsible for enterprise and industrial policy, said on that occasion: "I am very glad that the mobile industry has been the understanding that much simpler life of ordinary consumers. They will be able to charge their mobile phones anywhere new universal battery charger. This would also entail a significant reduction in waste, because people will no longer be disposed of chargers when buying new phones. I am also very pleased that this decision has been found through self-regulation. As a result, the commission does not consider necessary to adopt any laws. "
