South Korean company Samsung Electronics announced a new processor S5P6440, belonging to the popular family of processors ARM11. This novelty is produced with the use of contemporary 45-nm CMOS (CMOS) technology and low power consumption, while providing high performance, which is very important for today's portable radio electronics.
As the manufacturer states, the new processor was specially designed to significantly increase the productivity of systems in which it is applied with a simultaneous decrease in energy consumption, increased performance graphics subsystem, as well as reduce the cost of the entire system. The Company believes that through S5P6440 manufacturers of portable electronics will be able to quickly and in a timely withdrawal in the market for a new generation of devices.
Samsung S5P6440 based on the processor core of ARM1176, which works on either 533 MHz or at 667 MHz frequency. CPU core and other peripherals connected to the internal internal 64-bit AXI bus, which operates at a frequency of 166 MHz, providing sufficient bandwidth input / output needed for parallel processing in real applications.
To reduce the cost (and weight too) systems, which applies S5P6440, in the Samsung engineers built a set of hardware interfaces to support different equipment. There is, for example, multi-controller, NAND flash memory with hardware error correction, memory controller and DRAM, providing the opportunity to use the memory chips as the DDR, and DDR2.
In addition, S5P6440 applies general tire MIPI (mobile industry processor interface) and DSI (display serial interface), providing clients with advanced graphics capabilities, and the achieved reduction in the number of contacts and reducing the complexity of installation.
