Willtek taps Taiwan TD-SCDMA testing market

Willtek Communications, a wholly owned subsidiary of the US-based Wireless Telecom Group, will promote its TD-SCDMA testing equipment to Taiwan-based makers of handsets, netbooks, MIDs and mobile data cards, according Michael Kwan, Wireless Telecom president for Asia Pacific.

The market for TD-SCDMA is gaining momentum due to aggressive promotion by China Mobile which has pushed its subscriber base to over one million, Kwan noted.

Willtek, Anritsu and Beijing Starpoint Telecommunication Software are currently the three major vendors of testing equipment and certification services for TD-SCDMA, whereas Agilent and Rohde & Schwarz are relatively newcomers, Kwan noted.

Beijing Starpoint enjoys the advantage of being a domestic vendor and spearheads the certification business in the China market, while Willtek holds an over 40% share of the TD-SCDMA test equipment market, Kwan asserted.

Willtek's testing devices have found their way into a number of China-based companies, including Leadcore Technology, T3G Technology, Spreadtrum Communications, ZTE and BYD Electronic, Kwan noted.

Willtek began to push sales in the Taiwan market early in 2009 in cooperation with Taiwan-based Ace Solution, Kwan said.
