Bell goes all-IP with next-generation network

Nokia Siemens Networks’ solutions make it one of the most advanced and environmentally friendly networks in the world.

The launch of Bell Canada’s new, all-IP HSPA (evolved high-speed packet access) network means consumers and business customers have more choice in handsets and the ability to send and receive data at faster speeds. By utilizing Nokia Siemens Networks’ HSPA solution, including the award-winning Flexi Multiradio Base Station, Bell has reduced its network’s energy consumption and costs and simplified its operations to make it easier to launch new services.

“The innovative solutions provided by Nokia Siemens Networks allow Bell Mobility to offer our clients the latest technologies and devices on the fastest, largest and most reliable wireless network in Canada,” said Stephen Howe, Bell Mobility's Chief Technology Officer. “We are extremely pleased with the network’s performance and how the Nokia Siemens Networks team worked with us to accomplish our objectives for this new network.”

Nokia Siemens Networks’ deployed some of its most advanced solutions to enable HSPA through an end-to-end approach that includes the Flexi Base Station and radio network controller, Direct Tunnel enabled packet core, subscriber data management and the NetAct operations support system. In addition to being environmentally friendly, the Flexi Base Station software can be easily upgraded to LTE.

With a shared purpose of delivering a user experience that adds real value to customers, Bell has an enhanced capability through subscriber data management to make that happen. By evolving to a subscriber-centric network with a unified subscriber database, Bell can reap the benefits of network efficiency and is also able to provide an enhanced personal experience to customers.

“Bell is launching one of the fastest, largest and most advanced HSPA networks in the world, and Nokia Siemens Networks is excited to partner with them in ensuring its success,” says Sue Spradley, North America Region Head, Nokia Siemens Networks. “We are pleased to be a part of this significant milestone where Canada is reinforcing its worldwide leadership in telecommunications.”
