Re-establishing connections

HAITI – 2010 will no doubt be a year the people of Haiti remember those who were lost in the devastation caused by the recent earthquake. As a global business, Nokia does what it can to help in times of need and together with Nokia Siemens Networks is currently working with authorities and expert organisations to extend its support, particularly in re-establishing communication links on the island. Alongside this help, the company has also made a cash donation of $200,000 to contribute to the aid efforts.

The extent of the disaster, which has been described by the UN secretary General Ban Ki-moon as one of the worst humanitarian crises in decades, is still being understood and aid agencies are preparing to feed, clothe and house millions of people for the next six months.

The death toll in Haiti following the earthquake is still unknown, but is likely to be between 100,000 and 200,000 people.
