Verizon Wireless has publicly acknowledged the Motorola DROID 2 for the first time.
An official spokesperson for the nation's top carrier mentioned the still-unannounced Android phone in a note posted moments ago. The note was published on the official Verizon Wireless New York City Metro-area Twitter account.
In the "tweet", Verizon Wireless links to an article on a cell phone enthusiast blog discussing Android 2.2 benchmark tests performed with the Motorola DROID 2:

While the Motorola DROID 2 still has not been officially announced, this represents the first time Verizon Wireless, the phone's eventual carrier, has referred to the phone publicly.
The DROID 2 will replace the Motorola DROID in Verizon Wireless' lineup and is expected to feature a 1GHz processor, a 5-megapixel camera and an improved QWERTY keypad.
An official release date and pricing for the Motorola DROID 2 are still unknown.
