Hands-On With The HTC EVO ONE
Is this the next EVO? I would assume it is, unless there are some major changes and redesigns prior to its launch. First things first; this phone is a beast. It feels pretty big in hand, but it’s not overwhelming. It does have a 4.7 inch screen with a 720p resolution. It’s running Android 4.0.3 and Sense 4.0. It has a back 8MP shooter and a front 1.3MP camera. It comes equipped with Beats audio which helps it produce some killer sound. It seems like this phone should be in everyone’s pocket, right? Well…
The hardware on this phone is stellar, but after a while it just feels like HTC’s same old thing. Sense has been slimmed down, but it hasn’t really done much to not be boring. Maybe I’ve been spoiled with the true ICS experience and I just want too much, or maybe this feeling of stagnation is legit. I don’t know I suppose that would be for you to decide. I only had a little time with it, so I can’t really give you the details I’d like to about this device.
In my brief time with it I could at least get a feel for it and the thing that stood out the most for me was the camera. Wow, it blew me away. It might be one of the best cameras I’ve seen on a mobile device and that includes the i*hone’s camera. Everything was buttery smooth concerning the interface and it is, after all, an HTC device so it may not come out of the box with an unlocked bootloader, but, historically speaking, that has been a non-issue and there will more than likely be some devs working their magic.
So, if you don’t mind the new Sense 4.0 experience, then this phone is definitely for you. But if what you want something more than that, then you might want to wait to see what happens with the dev community around the device. There’s so much power and performance there that it would be a shame to see it go to waste. I definitely want to spend more time with it and provide you with a more detailed review, but my quick hands-on left me impressed yet not excited.
