SAMSUNG Helps Guests Feel like They Never Left Home with New Comprehensive Line of LED TVs for the Hospitality Industry

Samsung 2012 Line of LED TVs Are First to Offer H-Browser and CMS, Enabling Hoteliers to Offer Variety of Smart In-room Entertainment More Cost Effectively

Samsung Electronics America Inc., a market leader and award-winning innovator in consumer electronics, introduced its highly anticipated 2012 line of LED TVs for the hospitality industry. The 2012 lineup offers a range of sizes and features designed to meet the varying needs of hotels, cruise lines and hospitals, while still delivering the same superb entertainment experiences that guests currently enjoy in their homes.

Samsung’s full range of edge-lit and direct-lit hospitality LED TVs combine superior picture quality and enhanced energy efficiency in a sleek form factor. The 2012 lineup features a breadth of LED TVs, including ten different models that range in size from 22 to 55 inches in order to meet virtually any space, from a standard room to a suite. While features vary by model, the line’s innovations include rich, customizable content in full HD 1080p as well as dynamic interactivity and advanced content management capabilities. With two additional dedicated models to meet the evolving needs of hospital environments, the line also offers simplified ways to manage each TV, distribute key hotel information and design a personalized stay for each guest without costly upgrades or add-ons.

“Today Samsung raises the bar for in-room entertainment with the introduction of LED TVs that offer our outstanding picture quality and design and new, unique interactive experiences,” said Jonas Tanenbaum, Vice President of Hospitality at Samsung Electronics America. ”Samsung’s hospitality line mirrors the company’s commitment to innovation in the overall home entertainment market, offering guests a superior in-room experience on par with what they’ve come to expect in the home.”

Hotel Interactive Line

Samsung’s HA790 flagship line of LED TVs offer H-Browser through a partnership with Guest-Tek that provides guests with a premium interactive experience. Built on the HTML5 standard with Flash support, H-Browser is a true Smart TV solution that features both free and video on demand (VOD) content. It is able to interface directly with the head end, whether the head end is located on or off the hotel premises.

Allowing premium properties to achieve the next level of interactivity, H-Browser eliminates the need for a VOD set-top box, a costly and unsightly item. The average hotel has about 150 rooms, with each VOD set-top box costing approximately $200; a property can save up to $30,000 on unnecessary hardware alone. In addition, the slim, sleek design is not obstructed by external hardware, allowing for beautiful and space saving room designs.

“We were very excited to work with Samsung to provide the robust, flexible H-Browser solution,” explained Derrick Brian, Vice President of Product Strategy of Guest-tek. “As the number one Smart TV brand, this offering from Samsung will truly be a game-changer in the hospitality industry. It provides unparalleled opportunity for hoteliers to offer premium entertainment options without costly VOD hardware for the first time ever.”

For the hoteliers who do not want to invest in costly VOD solutions, but still want to offer a dynamic in-room entertainment experience, Samsung’s Hotel Interactive TV line includes Samsung’s Content Management System (CMS). As the only true standalone “widget” solution, this internet based widget solution delivers enhanced HTML and rich text with protocols to communicate between Samsung TVs and hotel property management software. With Samsung’s unique CMS, facility managers can now completely customize the in-room entertainment by unlocking rich content from the Samsung Hotel Widget Library and apps for a more interactive guest experience. In addition, guests can enjoy content and experience seamless connectivity between their personal Samsung devices and the big screen using Samsung’s AllShare.

REACH

In addition, the full 2012 Hospitality TV line offers Samsung’s Remote Enhanced Active Control for Hotels (REACH). REACH allows hoteliers to further customize in-room entertainment with basic content management capabilities, landing channel control, centralized TV controls using embedded Samsung Interactive Remote Control for Hospitality (SIRCH) capabilities and Interactive Program Guide information.

Samsung LYNK ™

Samsung’s 2012 line of LED TVs also feature Samsung LYNK ™, a new Digital Rights Management (DRM) technology that combines software and hardware in an optimal way. The DTLA approved technology allows hoteliers to remotely manage in-room entertainment content, resulting in cost savings, efficiency and ease of management. Approved by six major Hollywood studios, the robust, secure, reliable and low cost solution alleviates issues currently experienced with traditional systems, including “key loss”, HD Channel Audio Sync and sporadic individual HD channel dropping.
