Using groups on your Nokia Lumia
Keep up-to-date with the important people in your life, by creating groups
When you think of the word group, you probably think of pop-singers. Or alternately, those yobs that hang out on your street corner. However, there’s much more to the word and creating groups on your Nokia Lumia make for a quick and easy way to keep in contact with all the important people in your life.
The people you work with, your friends from school, your family, the guys from football training? They are all different groups of people. Sure, they are already stored in your People Hub, along with everybody else you’ve ever met or randomly follow on Twitter, but make those small groups of people easier to find and connect with.
To do this, you must first navigate your way to your People Hub. Now, press the plus symbol at the bottom of the screen and you’ll be asked if you want to add a new contact or a new group. Here, we’re going to press new group.
Giving the group the correct name is important, especially if you’re going to be creating several groups. If you’re looking to put all the guys from the pub into one group, you might consider calling this group The Lads, or The White Lion (the name of the pub). Once you’ve found the appropriate group name, just hit add a contact beneath the group name.
Find all the people you want to put into the group and press the save icon to save that group.
You’ll now have an overview of who’s in the group and the options available to you now. Live Tiles of the people will flick into action in the main section with the added options to send everyone a text or an email at the same time underneath the tiles. This is great for communicating to everybody in the group at once. “Get the beers in. I’ll see you all at 8!” is the perfect text to let your mates know what time you’ll be at the bar.

Glide the screen to the right and you’ll see what the people in that group are talking about on their social networks like Facebook or Twitter.
There’s not much use in creating a group if it’s not easily accessible. Within the group, the pin icon at the bottom of the screen means that you can pin that entire group to the Start Screen as one Live Tile. It will dynamically update itself to show you when somebody within that group interacts with you by means of a text or a phone call, or also when they update a social network.
Plus, if you want to contact one of the members directly, rather than the whole group, you can still use the group Live Tile to find that one person; press the group tile and then the individual tile to be taken to their contact information.
Obviously, ‘the guys down the pub’ is just one example of a group you could create. You can do the exact same thing for any group of people you’d like to be in contact with. With your favourite groups pinned to your Start Screen, you’re only ever one click away from the most important people in your life.
You can create groups on all of the Nokia Lumias, which includes: the Nokia Lumia 610, Nokia Lumia 710, Nokia Lumia 800 and the Nokia Lumia 900.
