ASUS’ world-renowned ‘Design Thinking’ philosophy has significantly reduced PadFone 2 Station’s thickness and weight. At just 649g, the combined weight of both PadFone 2 and PadFone 2 Station is now lighter than most tablets on the market, and the dock mechanism has been redesigned to require just one swift step to use. PadFone 2 has also been subtly refined to increase its screen size to 4.7”, while reducing its thickness and weight to just 9mm at its thickest point and 135g, respectively.

Battery life is astounding, too. The higher-capacity PadFone 2 2140mAh battery provides up to 16 hours 3G talk-time and 13 hours Wi-Fi web browsing, while PadFone 2 Station’s 5000mAh battery gives up to 36 hours 3G talk-time. PadFone 2 Station’s internal battery also has enough capacity to recharge the docked PadFone 2 three times over.

Super phone, super performance
A 1.5GHz Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 quad-core processor with 2GB of RAM ensures incredible PadFone 2 performance in both smartphone and tablet modes. The new 4.7” 1280 x 720 HD Super IPS+ display uses scratch-resistant Corning® Fit Glass and delivers sharp, detailed images with accurate colors, ultra-wide viewing angles and 550 nits brightness for stunning outdoor visibility.

A new 13-megapixel high-performance camera captures incredibly detailed images with no shutter lag. Burst mode can capture up to 100 shots at a blisteringly quick six shots per second, while simultaneously recording 1080p HD video at 30fps, or 720p HD video at 60fps. Low-light performance is also enhanced by the wide f/2.4 aperture and a dedicated image signal processor. Both PadFone 2 and PadFone 2 Station feature superlative sound quality too, thanks to ASUS SonicMaster technology and audio tuning by Waves, recipient of a Technical GRAMMY Award®.

Easy to share, easy to save
With capacities up to 64GB and 50GB of ASUS WebStorage provided free for two years, PadFone 2 offers endless possibilities for storing data. Data syncing between devices is also a thing of the past, since PadFone 2 storage is used by PadFone 2 Station when the two are connected, while NFC allows users to share webpages, Contacts and user recommendations from Play Store with others. Shared mobile data connectivity between smartphone and tablet also means just one data plan is needed for both devices, while support for up to 42Mbit/s DC-HSPA+ and 100Mbit/s LTE delivers super-fast web browsing and downloads.

User-friendly enhancements
PadFone 2 also features a new version of the SuperNote app that instantly converts handwritten notes made in multiple languages into editable text. Its Instant Translation tool also translates any word, phrase or sentence in an email, web page or app at a touch, without the need for a third-party translation tool.

Availability
PadFone 2 will be launched before the end of December in Europe (Bulgaria, Estonia, Finland, Germany, Hungary, Italy, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain, and Sweden) and Asia (Hong Kong, India, Japan, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, Thailand, and U.A.E). Availability in other countries will be announced at a later date.

PadFone 2 - two years in development, seamless one-step docking

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=NyXlirkRUVs Meet Padfone 2 - the latest evolution in ASUS' unique mobile phone/tablet hybrid concept

The PadFone concept has been in development for over three years now and the latest release, Padfone 2, has been in the lab for more than two years.

With PadFone 2, ASUS wanted to further improve the user experience and particularly the process of moving between Pad and Phone.

ASUS engineers worked tirelessly to reduce the weight of both PadFone 2 and the PadFone 2 Station tablet dock, looking at every part of the product with an eye on reducing weight without sacrificing robustness or quality. The result of all this hard work is that, together, the two are lighter than many 10-inch tablets on the market and the user experience hasn't been compromised in the process.

One of the key breakthroughs with PadFone 2's design is the new patent-pending docking mechanism. ASUS wanted to simplify the PadFone 2's docking process by reducing the number of steps required to dock or undock the phone.

PadFone 2 requires just a single-step insertion and removal process that, amazingly, is more secure than the original PadFone docking mechanism, which incorporated a protective hinged door. It's hard to believe that the dock is as secure as it is, but the Phone remains in place when PadFone 2 is used upside down and it'll withstand the knocks and bumps of daily use.

This was the result of over two years of extensive research and development by ASUS engineers. Many different versions of the mechanism were tested during its two and a half year development, and the result is an incredibly intuitive and refined user experience.

Docking and undocking is simple and ASUS software engineers also worked to optimize Dynamic Display technology to make the switch between Phone and Pad even more seamless. The result of this work is instantly obvious -- the transition between modes now takes just over one second and your apps are perfectly optimized for both screen sizes.

ASUS PadFone two at the press pictures and videos

Prior to the announcement of a hybrid phone and tablet ASUS PadFone 2 there are very few, the presentation is scheduled for October 16, but to see appearance of the device is possible. Moreover, apart from the official press shots and a video of the machine shows none other than the executive director Jerry Shen (Jerry Shen). Designs smartphone and tablet dock has undergone some changes, which, however, is not so radical to talk about the lack of continuity with the original ASUS PadFone. The model has a 4.7-inch HD-screen and is based on a quad-core platform Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro with 2 GB of RAM. Among other features worth noting the presence of a 13-megapixel camera.

Asus Padfone 2: official launch on October 16 in Milan

Right now arrived in drafting the official release of Asus announcing a " Save the date "for the October 16 , when there will be the presentation of the new Padfone 2 . The presentation will take place in Milan and Taipei but yet there is no further information about the time. For now it is, as mentioned above, a " save the date "or a" stay free ", so we expect that Asus will soon provide more details.

The Padfone 2 have emerged very interesting details from some benchmark test performed on the device and subsequently leaked in the network. Should be almost certain to use a very handsome processor, a Qualcomm Snapdragon S4 Pro quad-core 1.5 GHz, and the presence of  Android 4.0.4 ICS which should soon be upgraded to Jelly Bean .
Of course, we invite you to follow us as TuttoAndroid will be present at Asus in Milan and will provide you live all the news, pictures and video on the new device "hybrid" that Asus is preparing to submit.
Stay tuned!

ASUS' Vivo Tab & Vivo Tab RT: Windows 8/RT Tablets Renamed

At Computex this year ASUS unveiled its Windows 8 and RT tablets in a surprisingly mature state. At their introduction ASUS simply named them the Tablet 810 and Tablet 600. Today, they are getting official branding. Meet the Vivo Tab and Vivo Tab RT.
The Vivo is the old Tablet 810, based on Intel's 32nm Clover Trail Atom platform. ASUS/Intel aren't discussing clock speeds yet, but the SoC is paired with 2GB of memory and an on-board 64MB eMMC device for storage.
The tablet features an 11.6-inch Super IPS+ display with a 1366 x 768 resolution. The capacitive touchscreen is aided by a Wacom digitizer stylus for hopefully natural pen input. The Vivo Tab weighs 675g and is only 8.7mm thick. You also get built in NFC, an 8MP rear camera and a 2MP front facing camera.
The Vivo Tab RT is the Tablet 600, an ARM based Windows RT tablet using NVIDIA's Tegra 3 SoC. The dimensions drop a bit to 8.3mm thin and 520g. The display is smaller at 10.1-inches, but you still get a 1366 x 768 display resolution and a Super IPS+ panel. You get the same front/rear cameras from the Vivo Tab, and built in NFC as well.

The Vivo Tab RT ships with 2GB of memory and 32GB of on-board eMMC storage. Let's hope ASUS picked a good supplier for the eMMC in these tablets, so far Samsung seems to have the best solutions out of those I've tested.
Both tablets offer an optional mobile dock with integrated keyboard, trackpad, USB ports (2 on the Vivo, 1 on the RT) and secondary battery. This is the same flexibility ASUS' Transformer Pad series enjoys in the Android world. With Windows 8/RT, the appeal of a tablet that can transform into a clamshell ultraportable notebook seems so much greater though.
There's no word on pricing or availability for either of these two tablets, but you can expect them to show up in line with the official Windows 8/RT launch on October 26.

The ASUS Zenbook U500VZ: A 15-inch Ultrabook

Although most Ultrabooks have focused on the 11 and 13-inch form factors, today ASUS is announcing its first 15-inch Ultrabook. The Zenbook U500VZ measures 19.7mm at its thickest point. The display is the big attraction, and ASUS doesn't appear to disappoint with its 1080p 15-inch IPS panel. The larger size of the machine allows ASUS to incorporate a separate numeric keypad. The entire keyboard is backlit of course.

Since the design isn't ultra thin it loses the Prime suffix and is simply a Zenbook, despite having the upgraded display and new keyboard from the Zenbook Prime.

Under the hood ASUS is building in a quad-core Ivy Bridge Core i7 CPU and optional NVIDIA GeForce GT 650M. Storage options are pretty flexible thanks to the system's two 2.5" drive bays. You can get two SSDs for up to 512GB of storage, or ASUS also offers a 128GB SSD + 500GB HDD option if you want speed, capacity and value.

There are a lot of specs missing from the release but we'll add more as we get them.

Google advertising Nexus 7 on home page

Head to Google.com today and you’ll find an advertisement for the Nexus 7.  Big deal, right?  Actually, yeah, it is.  Google doesn’t advertise their Nexus devices all that often and typically leaves their search home clean.  That’s not to say they haven’t done anything like this in the past; Google advertised the T-Mobile G1 back in 2008.

We’re curious to learn whether this is a short term campaign or if it’s going to be around a while.  We have seen plenty of advertising support for the Nexus 7 including magazines, online stuff, and a TV spot.  For the first time we can remember, Google is everywhere with the $200 tablet.

Nexus 7 quad-core overclocked to 2.0 GHz, shatters benchmarks

The Google Nexus 7 and NVIDIA’s Tegra 3 quad-core processor just keep pushing the cutting edge. When we say cutting edge — we mean faster than anything else available. Over at XDA they’ve pushed the limits farther than we thought possible, and now have the NVIDIA Tegra 3 quad-core that powers the Nexus 7 running at 2.0 GHz. Check it out below.

Yup, that is an actual screenshot. I just made it pretty. We’ve talked about these types of things in the past. Earlier this month we saw the Nexus 7 overclocked to 1.7 GHz and pass 7000 in Quadrant benchmarks, but this here is an entirely new level topping 8000. This time around however we aren’t running on the popular Trinity (derkenel) many know and love. Instead this awesome news comes to us thanks to my good pal Simms22, and clemsyn at XDA Developers.

Clemsyn’s very special and experimental test kernel (as in not for the public) has managed to push the limits to 2.0 Ghz on this quad-core chip. Many are able to enjoy his latest and greatest at 1.8 GHz, but 2.0 is causing a few issues so for now this is only an internal build. Hopefully once these awesome developers continue to push the limits we can see an actual release. For now however, this will have to do.

Pretty impressive scores right? That is beating Qualcomm’s unreleased quad-core linked to below. According to Simms the Nexus 7 and Tegra 3 at 2.0 GHz isn’t exactly what we’d call “stable” but he was able to get a few other tests in — including the new and popular RL Benchmark. Since this is such an experimental kernel we won’t be including details or instructions like before, but since we know there’s a few diehard enthusiasts out there we’ll give you a link. If you’d like to follow along with clemsyn and his “Elite Kernel” for some high speed fun you can do so by heading to this XDA thread.

Nexus 7 Now Available From The Play Store In France, Germany, And Spain

Good news, everyone! Everyone's favorite Android tablet is finally becoming available in more European countries. Today, the seven inch slate started showing up via Google's online storefront in France, Germany, and Spain. The price will be €199 for the 8GB model and €249 for the 16GB. Of course, once you count for the conversion rates, this means our friends across the pond will be paying a bit more than US customers do. This isn't an uncommon practice for foreign releases, but it still means the tablet will be a little more expensive overseas.

Unfortunately, that's not the only downside. At the moment, Play Movies and Play Books are available for all three of the new countries, but Play Magazines and Play Music are still US-only. To say nothing of Play Store gift cards. Since this device is being made, among other reasons, to push Play Store content, it's a little counterproductive when a large chunk of Google's content isn't available in those countries yet.
Still, if you reside in France, Germany, or Spain, and you've been waiting to get in on the high-end budget tablet market, it's time to grab your wallets.

Instructions

You will find these files useful if you have used the Android Open-Source Project, flashed custom builds on your device, and wish to return that device to its factory state.
In order to use these files, you need to have the fastboot tool in your PATH. That tool is compiled as part of every configuration of the Android Open-Source Project and is the tool used to flash custom builds on your device. On GNU/Linux systems, this also implies that you have configured USB access as mentioned in the machine setup instructions.
Your device needs to be in fastboot mode, with the bootloader unlocked. The relevant key combinations and commands are documented on the page about building for devices.
You need to uncompress each download before use, which creates a new directory for that exact download. That directory contains a ./flash-all.sh script, which handles the various operations, installs the necessary bootloader, baseband firmware(s), and operating system. Note that this operation deletes all user data by default.
After restoring a factory image, it is recommended that you lock the bootloader, for security reasons.
