Acer and Asustek hold over 50% of EMEA netbook market in 3Q09, followed by Samsung, says Canalys

Acer and Asustek Computer continued to lead in the EMEA netbook market in the third quarter of 2009, taking up 32.4% and 19.6% shares, respectively, but Samsung Electronics rose quickly with a 12% share to take third place, according to figures from research firm Canalys.

Hewlett-Packard (HP) followed Samsung with an 11.6% share, trailed by Toshiba's 4.2% and Dell's 3.5%.

Samsung is currently using its partnerships with telecom carriers to quickly expand its netbook share in EMEA markets, according to market sources.

Digitimes Research also pointed out that Samsung and Asustek will both have a high ratio of netbooks in their total notebook shipments in 2010. Samsung's netbooks will account for 75% of its total notebook shipments, indicating that netbooks will become an important product line for the company's future revenue growth, Digitimes Research noted.

With success in the netbook market, Samsung also recently launched several 12- to 15-inch ultra-thin notebooks, showing its ambition in the notebook market.
