Samsung has released the first 20 nm processor

Samsung has announced that its division of Samsung Foundry succeeded in producing a first processor, made on 20-nm process technology. Processor based on ARM Cortex M0 chip manufactured using the technology of High-K Metal Gate (HKMG). The company works with many partners, to work out the infrastructure to create a 20-term or on-chip systems and components for it. Details are available to interested parties through Software Developer Kit designed for customers who require this technology. Co-operating partners are working on the inevitable difficulties in developing new designs, in particular on the creation of energy-efficient systems for processors based on 20 or manufacturing process. The Samsung believe that this technology will encourage other companies to develop a new device structure, the new routing rules and other improvements. Test samples are made based on the ARM Cortex M0, which is the most compact and power-efficient processors. In the manufacture of the sample also used by the development company Cadence Design Systems and Synopsys. Samsung has not yet called the timing in which the 20-nm technology will be used for mass production of processors.
